The African beads in this necklace were made using the lost wax method.  After they were cast, the clay mold for each bead had to be broken to release it.

The green beads are made of recycled glass by the Krobo people of Ghana, a complicated process that involves pulverizing the glass and then re-fusing it. The colors are beautiful -- shades of red-brown and blue, in addition to the green.

And, of course, the lovely peachy iridescence of the nucleus pearls. The organic forms add an element of mystery to the even line of the necklace.
